Julie Zimmermann, Director
Julie Zimmermann has an elementary education degree from Concordia University Chicago and has taught kindergarten, first, and fourth grade in addition to working as a homebound tutor, substitute teacher and early childhood music instructor. She became a member of St. Mark’s Church in 2006 and has made it her mission to help connect families to Jesus and one another through her volunteer work at church. She has served as chairman of the preschool board, nursery committee member, VBS volunteer, and coordinator of Jesus, Mommy & Me Playgroup. Currently, she coordinates Parents Fellowship and Bible Study groups at St. Mark’s.
Julie lives in St. Charles with her husband Jonathan and three children, Olivia, Mary Emma, and Jonah – two of whom are St. Mark’s Preschool alumni! In her spare time, Julie enjoys reading, writing, going on family vacations, and watching her children perform in concerts and theater productions around town.
Tim Bayer, Senior Pastor
Tim Bayer joined the St. Mark's ministry team in 2016. He brings a love for faith formation and development in children and famliies that expresses itself in chapel services and resource development.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Concordia University Chicago and a Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He is also a Doctor of Education candidate at Concordia University Portland (Oregon). He lives in St. Charles with his wife, Beth and their two children, Ethan and Noah. Together, they enjoy the outdoors, travel, and fine wine (without the kids).
Ann Cannon graduated from Missouri State with a BS in Home Economics and a specialization in Early Childhood Education. Ann has been with St. Mark’s for over 25 years, starting as a substitute teacher and classroom assistant, and then becoming a 3’s teacher. She is currently the T/Th 3’s Teacher and M/W/F 3’s Assistant. Her many hours in early childhood also makes Ann director qualified. Before coming to St. Mark’s, Ann taught kindergarten in Texas and was also an assistant director in a private child care center. Ann and her husband are active members of St. Mark's church where she has also taught VBS, Sunday school and midweek programs. They have 2 grown daughters and 3 grandchildren. Ann likes to walk, cook, read, sing in church choir and play with her grandchildren.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARK’S: I enjoy teaching the kids about Jesus through prayer, song and bible stories in this Christian environment.
April Claussner, Adminsitrative Assistant
April Claussner has a Mathematics secondary education degree from College of Notre Dame of Maryland. She became a member of St. Mark’s Church in 2009. She enjoys a variety of volunteer positions including volunteering at the elementary school, Girls Scouts, and Community Supper. For the past seven years she has also taught preschoolers at Bible Study Fellowship. She enjoys spreading the love of Jesus especially to children and moms.
April lives in St. Charles with her husband Keith and three children, Kara, Amanda, and Kayla – two of whom are St. Mark’s Preschool alumni! In her spare time, April enjoys playing soccer, crocheting, craft projects with her girls and watching her children play soccer.
Julee Cranfill is the Assistant Teacher in the M/W/F 4’s. Her daughter and son are St. Mark’s alumni and after spending 5 straight years with them in school here, she joined the St. Mark’s staff – first as a substitute, and later making her way into the 4’s classroom permanently. Julee has a BA in Journalism/Public Relations from NIU. She later completed Early Childhood classes to become teacher certified and also substitute teaches in several D303 grade schools. Julee is very involved with the St. Charles East HS Athletic Booster organization as well as St. Charles Swim Team. Her family resides in St. Charles and she enjoys boating, bike riding, cooking/baking and cheering for the ISU Cyclones!
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARK’S: Teaching kids so many new concepts and then seeing how much they grow both physically and mentally over the course of the year!
Debbie Engel is the M/W and T/TH 2-year-old classroom Teacher. She comes to St. Mark’s with 15 years of teaching early childhood. Debbie graduated from Oakland University in Rochester, MI with a BS in elementary education and a concentration in early childhood.
She is involved with her church Sunday school along with the puppet ministry. She has 4 daughters, 1 son and a son-in-law. Debbie enjoys reading, knitting and doing cross stitch.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARK’S: Looking forward to seeing what this first year here brings.
Anna Hutchinson has a passion for teaching the youngest group of students at St. Mark’s – the 2 year olds – who meet on T/Th. She will be moving to a new age group this year – the 3 year olds – who meet on T/TH/F. She has taught for 10 years including other preschools in the tri-cities area. She attended Robert Morris University and also works for St. Charles Aquatics teaching swimming lessons and is a coach for the St. Charles Swim Team pre-team. Anna and her husband reside in St. Charles and have 2 daughters and one son, all of whom are collegiate swimmers. Anna’s entire family enjoys being active in the outdoors and spending time together with friends and family.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST MARK’S: I enjoy the children, of course, and also having the opportunity to serve the spiritual needs of them and their families.
Anne Hutko, Assistant Teacher in the 4-day 4’s class, has also worked assisting in both the 3’s and 2’s programs here, along with preschool work experience prior to coming to St. Mark’s. Anne lives in Geneva with her husband, daughter, twin sons and cockapoo, Duke. She holds a BS in Fashion Merchandising/Marketing from Eastern Michigan University and also completed additional hours to obtain teacher certification. Anne has taught children’s bible study at her church and enjoys spending time with friends and family, interior design work, gardening, reading and working with rescued animals, primarily dogs.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARK’S: The friendly staff I work with and also sharing God’s word with the children.
Patte Kingsley, M/W/F 3’s Teacher, has been a St. Mark’s teacher for 28 years. Growing up in the Denver area, she attended Western State College where she studied Spanish. She also took early childhood classes at Elgin and Waubonsee Community Colleges that garnered her director qualified status. Over the years, Patte has both assisted and taught 3 and 4 year old classes. She and her husband have a grown daughter and son who are St. Mark’s alums. Patte cherishes when she gets time with her grandchildren and also spending time tending her amazing garden, singing and playing the guitar. She and her husband enjoy their cat and yellow lab and love to go camping, boating and fishing.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARK’S: Experiencing the faith of the children that Jesus loves them and he is always with them.
Jean Petricca, a lifelong resident of St. Charles, is the Assistant in both the M/W and T/Th 2’s classes. She graduated from Illinois State University where she majored in Theater and Political Science. Jean has been a swim instructor at the Norris Recreation Center for over 20 years. She and her husband have a daughter who is a St. Mark’s alumni. She also makes her home with a golden retriever and rescue cats. Jean “loves life” and is happy to be on staff here at St. Marks.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARKS:
I am grateful to work with these very young children in such a nurturing environment.
The 4-day 4’s Teacher, Stephanie Schmoker, attended University of Iowa and Loyola University studying English and political science/pre-law. She got her early childhood education at College of DuPage and Erikson Institute Chicago. She served as a CASA advocate while teaching preschool in Naperville. She also owned a boutique in Geneva named The Pink Hippo/ Ella’s Pink Bowtique. Stephanie grew up in Sheridan where she currently resides with her boyfriend. She enjoys cooking, reading, fresh flowers and growing food – most notably a pineapple patch at her parents’ vacation home in Florida.
WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ST. MARK’S: Being able to develop and implement a creative and academic curriculum in a spiritual environment and watch the children learn and grow.
Sue Strub has been teaching 4-year-olds at St. Mark’s preschool for over 20 years, currently the M/W/F class. She graduated with degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education from Carthage College and is also director qualified. She has over 30 years of teaching which include 2nd grade in Buffalo Grove and preschool/1st grade in Atlanta. Outside of St. Mark’s she currently tutors many D303 students. Sue and her husband have a daughter/son-in-law and son and she became a grandma in July! Sue’s talents and interests include decorating, gardening, exercising and bike riding.
